First Day Back

Before the eight AM sounds
A crowd of Seniors gather round
Carrying books and backpacks too
Kindred spirits are renewed

Talking, laughing, playfully shoving
Outbursts louder than they should be

Scolded by two classroom teachers
“Could you move towards the football bleachers?”
Headed towards the fields they dash
Only to be told…”Get back to class!”
Oh the teachers are so cruel
“Like it’s…um…the first day of school.”
