lake effect snowstorm
bold woodpecker fights strong wind
working on suet
like the woodpecker
we fight Satan's deadly work
unnoticed - unseen
robins appear cold
hopping the frost covered yard
earning what they find
shivering puppies
found a garage and warm milk
in the winter's dark
the moonlit snowfield
reveals white tail deer eating
still standing corn stalk
tall pine trees shadow
fox walking through drifting snow ...
wild wind whirls his coat
gloomy is shading
a vacant and vaulted sky...
air is void of light
a brown-headed gull
scanning the glassy lake...
dipping to catch lunch
illuminating
vague figures move a shadow...
deer herding the field
the eagle swoops low
the crows scatter into the trees ...
he spirals upward
hanging and pecking
a berry block of suet ...
downy woodpecker
