She Stood Alone
I noticed her, standing alone in the noisy, crowded airport. Her back to me, she wore a headscarf and long blue robes, luggage stacked.
She waited long, people flowing around her like a fast-forward. Still alone.
I knew it was culturally inappropriate for me to approach her. Yet it was also unacceptable for her to travel unaccompanied. Had she become lost, separated from her man, needing to ask someone for help?
Nervously I came closer. Then, a man, a little boy clinging to him, pushed through the crowds. She held the child, he gathered her luggage. They walked away together.
Words: 100.
Written for Rachel's Beatles Challenge.
Chosen song: I Saw Her Standing There
