I'm A Loser, Revolution, Help
Flower was a Hippie girl. Her real name was Scarlett. She was a college girl, majoring in Journalism. Her father was in Vietnam and a Flight Engineer on an airplane. Today, she was in a peace rally, protesting the Vietnam War. Flower and her Hippie friends didn't want a revolution. They wanted the war to end. Two of her male friends had been drafted and went to Vietnam. Danny and Tommy. Danny was killed. Flower was protesting. She wanted her father home and didn't want anymore of her friends drafted. She hoped all this marching and protesting would make a difference.
"We shall overcome. Hell no, we won't go." Flower and her Hippie friends were chanting by the White House. She saw President Johnson looking out the window and gave him the finger.
Larry, the police man threatened to arrest her.
"The government are losers. They don't care. They can sing The Beatles song, I'm A Loser. Maybe we should start a revolution." Flower went back to chanting Stop The War. Stop The War. Help. We need somebody. Not just anybody.
"Flower. The war won't last forever. Your father will come home. You have to have faith."
"Peace and love. That's what I am about. Me and my Hippie friends. We are peace loving. We care about everyone except the government and President Johnson. I loved JFK. He would have stopped this war. The US needs help and that's why we are protesting. "
Larry had arrested Flower once. She made straight A's and was beautiful. Long blonde hair, flowers in her hair, big blue eyes. She was great and sweet but she needed to stop protesting. He really liked her. He should have arrested her again for flipping off the President. He felt the same way about the Vietnam War.
"Flower. You could write letters to the President and the government as well as Congressmen. There are groups to join that support your cause. I have connections and you can talk to the President."
"Are you serious? I would love to tell him a thing or two."
Larry hugged Flower. His family had connections and Flower talked to the President. She dressed up in a nice, lavender dress above the knee. She wore pearls and butterflies clips in her hair. She didn't act like a Hippie. The President had lunch with her and listened to her views. The visit went well. Flower's father came home safely and he never had to go back to Vietnam. The war ended in 1973. Flower's father wasn't happy about her protesting and getting arrested but she had met the President and made a difference. He loved her and was proud of his baby girl.
My father was in Vietnam three times. He was a Flight Engineer on a C130. The first time he left, I was ten years old and we lived by Washington DC. If I had been old enough, I would have been a Hippie protesting the war. I don't think that's what Dad would have wanted. Dad was a hero and he died at 89. I have a shrine in his memory. He served his country well. I salute all military personnel and The Beatles.
