Loneliness
Eleanor was a church orphan. Father Mackenzie would tell her how she'd been left at the vicarage doorstep one evening, a quiet, unhappy baby. He raised her alone, thanking God for giving him someone to love and protect.
She lived her life in church. People saw her cleaning up, washing the stained glass windows, sweeping the floor. No one ever spoke to her. She was simply there, happy to honor God by caring for her only home.
She died suddenly, her funeral unattended. The stained glass grew cloudy, the church floor unswept. Father Mackenzie mourned Eleanor, the soul he'd saved.
