Growing Up
She left home one morning,
without any warning
leaving a cold penciled note.
“You're holding me back
from the loving I lack
I don't have a voice or a vote.
My boyfriend is charming
I'm tired of farming
Today I shall be truly free.”
Her parents were heartbroken:
She'd left them no token
Of the lady they'd raised her to be.
They waited with patience
Prayer and perseverance
Knowing the lessons she'd learn.
Their door was wide open
Their daughter came moping
His love was only a burn.
Her stable household
Welcomed back to the fold
A heart heavy, mature and concerned.
