Fools Be Free
He lived on top of the hill, sitting cross-legged, playing the flute. All the countryside spread out below him. It was a wonderful view.

“Who are you? Why are you here?”

He would only laugh and say,

“I can see everything.”

They shook their heads and kept going with their lives. He kept playing the flute.

War swept through the town below. A soldier came to the hilltop.

“Whose side are you on?”

“I can see everything!”

He laughed, waving the flute. The soldier shook his head and kept going. Life down below fluttered, changed, contracted, expanded. He watched everything.
