The Place in Between
That liminal space, caught in transition,
Not quite over, not quite begun anew.
Waiting for word of a job well done,
Approval, and directions for next steps.
Craning to look both forward and backward:
Back at what was completed with dedication,
Ahead at new goals awaiting.
Tempting to rest on one's laurels,
Sit down, enjoy a well-earned reward.
But there's much more beyond these moments of pause:
New adventures, trials, tests of mettle,
Time to prepare, to dream, to aspire.
In between established success and potential failure
Lies a critical decision: where to now?
94 words, 14 lines.
Free verse.
(Cliche… Sounds like one of those motivational posters in stuffy office buildings )
