Morning Hymn
I give up fitful slumber at dawn's faintest kiss,
Dreaming of tears falling fast from dark sky.
Daybreak a ritual I cannot bear to miss:
Soft pastels whispering “sunshine is nigh!”
Nevermind dull aching meaninglessness, it fades away,
As birds sing praises too sweet to hold back.
I join silent worship – feeble gratitude pay;
Though words fail me, Spirit knows what I lack.
I've spent shadowed hours wrestling regrets untold,
Long nights’ painful reckonings ring true.
Yet joy always comes – mornings of dewdrops pure gold,
Our Lord's grace offering, chances brand new.
12 lines, 88 words,
12-10-12-10 syllables,
ABAB rhyme.
Prompt: must include the words kiss, daybreak and tears.
