Can't Triple Cross A Double Cross
While Reggie continues to explore the underground mining tunnels in the rock quarry, the rest of you Investigate the massive teleportation circle surrounding the area where the city palace used to be. You’re all stumped until Reggie casually walks up and instantly identifies one of the sigils in the teleportation circle glyphs as belonging to the Shadowfell, a dark and twisted mirror world version of what you find here on the Material Plane.
Ikaron mentions a small hamlet a few days travel to the north which, according to her best guess, might have a passthrough into the Shadowfell. You also debate whether to use The Well and The Way to get there (the former of which Reggie impulsively uses to open a portal to a random plane), and Thogun also remembers that he has a Rod of Plane Shifting stashed away somewhere in the bottom of his knapsack. With multiple ways to get there and the basics of a plan figured out, you naturally immediately change directions and decide to head back to Kyriel instead. This was the result of information provided by Kragg that he thinks the pirate kingdom in the Shattered Sea might be making a play for Kyriel sooner rather than later. He knows that because he was the one who told the Pirate King about Kyriel’s current weaknesses, but decided to come clean with you after a conversation where he came to realize his chances of achieving his goal of reaching the Hollow Sea might be better realized with your group rather than relying on the Pirate King to provide him with the information he wants.
Upon arriving back in Kyriel, you catch up with your crew at Harborcrest. Rupert has discovered a way to extract Superior Poison from the garden rather than Basic Poison, Ozzie is continuing to research other faiths and artifacts that enhance the user’s strength, and both Tho and Reggie visit Dallon to make some special requests of his import/export connections. Whispersail and Reggie confront Krinn about his relationship to Korrigan and discover that the latter is the dragonborn’s father, although they’ve had a falling out. Krinn is actually scheduled to deliver Korrigan’s latest tithe tomorrow, and you all offer to go with him... both for moral support and because Reggie wants to get back into that cave lair for a few different reasons. In the meantime, Whispersail learns that an attack from the pirates is imminent, and the city only has a couple of weeks tops to brace itself.
