Pride
Prompts day 24: Story to be a Romance genre (or to feature Romance genre elements).
Jane flourished her parisol.
“Never would I consider marrying Mr. Darcy. His pride is overwhelming. He will not stoop to pluck a weed from his garden.”
“Ah, but he's wealthy, handsome and intelligent,” her sister Mary observed.
“What good are such things without a proper dose of humility?”
A storm tore through their yard, bringing down a mighty oak tree. In the morning, Mr. Darcy sweated alongside their father, sawing it up.
Jane watched, surprised to see him so undignified. Was he doing this for her? His work ethic impressed her. Perhaps his pride was not so intolerable after all.
