May the Road Rise to Meet You
I thought I knew the road before me.
Straight ahead, open sky,
nothing but the horizon for miles.

The mirage seemed harmless,
just a trick of the heat and light;
nothing that could touch me.

The turn came too fast; I didn't see it coming.
Metal screamed and smoke bellowed forth,
time stopped as the world inverted.

The desert was quiet once again,
the mirage burying its latest victim
and leaving nothing but the horizon for miles.
