Equality
Equality: tricky subject indeed.
Separate but equal never worked.
To be treated equally requires impartiality,
Empathy, trust, good faith.
Any step forward is progress, even tiny.
Am I treated equally alongside those with more?
More money, power, influence, or the right characteristics?
Am I part of the problem for being born white?
Who says what equality is anyway?
Everyone is born and dies an equal.
Yet nature embeds inequalities—
Is a mouse equal to an elephant?
Such thoughts mean nothing: humans are humans,
Regardless of status, all deserve the same
Opportunities, rights, freedoms, and care.
15 lines, 95 words.
prompt: equality.
