The Universe Speaks
The universe is speaking
but it refuses to use subtitles,
and I'm too dense and distracted
to make out what it's trying to tell me.
A rainbow appears over the freeway,
a divine highlighter guiding my way.
I take it as a sign to follow my dreams,
which mainly consist of quitting my job
and aggressively pursuing "my art."
(The universe rolls its eyes)
Then three people in one day say, “Oh wow, Mondays, huh?”
and I’m like: YES
Clearly I have been chosen
as the spokesperson for some cosmic struggle.
(The universe patronizingly pats me on the head)
A single leaf falls onto my shoulder—
I interpret it as a sign I should text my ex
and say all the things we agreed to leave unsaid
(The universe facepalms so hard it creates a new crater on the moon)
The universe is speaking
but it's in a language I don't understand.
And I don't have a translator app,
so I'm left grasping at straws.
