Untitled and Unfinished
I have a chronic problem with unfinished work.

My most recent unfinished work would be the incomplete novel that I wrote for
"Invalid ItemOpen in new Window. last year. It was a mystery/thriller about a game/hobby shop employee who fancies herself an amateur sleuth, and gets wrapped up in an actual conspiracy plot when she discovers that one of the regular game night attendees at her shop just might be involved in a domestic terrorism plot. The idea for the big twist at the end was that it was some of her regular game night attendees that were involved in something, but it was a fake plot designed to give the protagonist a thrill and something to test her investigative skills. It was a pretty bare bones plot and a story that I wasn't totally excited about; I just needed to get something on the table toward the end of October as we were headed into November.

It was intended to be at least 50,000 words to cross the
"Invalid ItemOpen in new Window. finish line, but I got less than 25% of the way there before I hit a roadblock and pivoted to something else. And ultimately, that's what prevented the work from advancing. It's what always prevents my work from advancing. Ooh Shiny Syndrome leads me to abandon a lot of projects part way, rather than pushing through and finishing them.

While I'm ultimately not
that determined to finish this particular project - it was just a hastily constructed NaNoWriMo effort, after all - I think I do need help with accountability. When left to my own devices, I clearly have a problem with follow-through (especially when it comes to longer works), so I would love to find some kind of community activity that helps encourages productivity and accountability, like a writing group.

Word Count: 361

Prompt: Write an around 300 to 500 word piece about a writing project that you have been working on, but aren't pushing through to completion. (If you need more words to explain your project: go ahead and write more. Just keep it on topic.) Explain the project: genre, plot synopsis, expected length (short story, saga, epic, novel, series). Tell us how long ago you started writing it. Tell us why you stopped working on it, or why the work is not advancing. Tell us what people in this group or on Writing.Com could do to help you see your project through to the end. For this task, you can submit your writing as an item link, entry link, or typed directly into a reply to this post.
