Filtering Memories
Prompt: "Memory is subject to a filtering process that we don't always recognize and can't always control. We remember what we can bear and block what we cannot." Sue Grafton Your thoughts on this?
I would like to block out the extensive bowel surgery I had, being on a breathing tube and learning to walk again. That was a bad time. My lousy ex-boyfriends I would love to forget. I try to remember my good memories. We all enjoy good memories and bad times we want to forget. We want to be happy. I know I do. I forgot things after my surgery and then I remembered them. I wasn't trying to block those. I just couldn't remember.
Bad memories are painful. It would be nice if we could forget them. I treasure the good and the bad memories seem to be blocked. I agree with Sue Grafton.
