Each Day Already is a Challenge

A Texas Sunrise

Sunrise on Surfside Beach, Texas

A friend, William Taylor, took this picture. He visits Surfside Beach with his dogs almost every morning, watching the sun rise while the dogs prance about at the water's edge.

This is only about ten miles from where I lived in Lake Jackson, Texas. Sadly, I only visited this beach about four times in the six years I lived nearby.

Each day is a challenge. A challenge to get by without thinking about the fibromyalgia pains. A challenge to stay awake when chronic fatigure wants to take over. And a challenge to navigate through fibro fog.

I haven't been writing as much as in the past. For years, I wrote at least 500 words a day. Now, I'm lucky if I write 500 words in month. Sigh.

I've shopped in Joann stores in two or three locations and loved them for the same reason you did. No matter how precise of colour thread or yarn I needed, it was there. So were every sewing item I could think of and a few that left me goggling, "Wow! That's cool! How did they come up with that one?

I reached junior high school too soon. I've always loved to cook, and I wanted to learn to sew and do housecrafts, but I was not allowed to take Home Ec because I was a boy. Dumb reason! I was told that the class was to "teach girls how to cook and sew and basically run a home." I tried to explain that boys also eat and need clothing, but no one seemed able to follow my reasoning. I won't even mention the blank looks I got for suggesting that maybe some of the girls would rather grow up to run a Fortune 500 company than a hubby's cozy home. (Or follow in the footsteps of Mary Ann Evans and write an intricately woven novel.)

I'm sorry I digressed. I just meant to say that I've shopped at Joann stores and thought they were amazing. As for 'things girls need to know', phooey. They need to know about things that interest them. The same is true for boys. I ended up in woodshop, where I learned to break tools and to turn long, straight boards into small, unrecognizable shapes.

Luckily, I later learned to macrame, latch-hook, embroider, sew simple projects, and I became a pretty fair cook. I still think it's sad that I had to quit school to get an education.

I'm sorry I keep running on about nothing. It's a character flaw.

We are of-an-age. I used to ask friends at the Senior Center, "Who died while I was gone?"

I don't go there anymore.

It's nice to meet people outside of 'business' when they are more authentically themselves.

Dang, my friend. When it rains, it pours. I believe that epitomizes your struggles.

Undergoing my own struggles with kidney cancer--outlined in my Blog--I both empathize and sympathize with your situation. I admit I've been extremely fortunate with the surgery and treatments I'm receiving. I also believe prayers work, something I'm not sure I believed until my wife got involved.

I'm praying for you. And I hope your cancer meds continue their success.

Thank you for sharing your story. It helps the rest of us.

Where do our tax dollars go?

Did you know that our stupid government paid NIH $4,658,865 to tell them whether or not drinking more results in more trips to the ER. Surprise. Yeppers. It does.

You know....I would have gladly told them that for about 1/4 as money.

You know what else? Bob Dylan, songwriter of the 60s is a sculptor. Our State Dept. paid him almost $85,000 for a statue outside the U.S. Embassy in Mozambique. It turns out that every time our government builds an office in a foreign country, they earmark .05% of the cost of the building for a sculpture to sit outside for the government employees to enjoy. Or ignore. The higher the cost of the building, the more they can spend on art.

Hmmm.

Sorry folks...The President isn't stupid

It amazes me that people think that President Trump isn't bright.

I've worked for big companies, I've worked for builders and architects and engineers, for plumbers - the ones who put bathrooms in hotels and high rises. I've also owned my own small business.

I've been an avid reader all of my life and I have been a writer since I was a child and was first published as a teen.

My own life experience tells me that Donald Trump is brilliant. When people say, "find out what rich people do and do that" they're talking about President Trump, not the crooks in our government.
