Complex Numbers
Complex Numbers
A complex number is expressed in the standard form a + bi, where a and b are real numbers and i is defined by i^2 = -1 (that is, i is the square root of -1). For example, 3 + 2i is a complex number.
The bi term is often referred to as an imaginary number (though this may be misleading, as it is no more "imaginary" than the symbolic abstractions we know as the "real" numbers). Thus, every complex number has a real part, a, and an imaginary part, bi.
Complex numbers are often represented on a graph known as the "complex plane," where the horizontal axis represents the infinity of real numbers, and the vertical axis represents the infinity of imaginary numbers. Thus, each complex number has a unique representation on the complex plane: some closer to real; others, more imaginary. If a = b, the number is equal parts real and imaginary.
Very simple transformations applied to numbers in the complex plane can lead to fractal structures of enormous intricacy and astonishing beauty.

HELL NO it's not art.

What it is, is a scathing criticism of the "art world" and pretentious art snobs who don't know what the hell they're looking at. If they can't see meaning in it, they'll damn well pretend there is one, make some shit up, and buy the fucker.
"I thought people would figure it out. But a collector paid £20 for The Best Loved Elephant. He said he liked the flow and energy of the picture.
Nor is it a commentary on the painting skills of a snot-nosed two year old. Quite the contrary; it indicates exactly what I've been saying for years: Modern art can be done by two-year-olds.
It's kind of like the monkeys-typing-Shakespeare thing; you know, a million monkeys on a million typewriters will eventually produce the works of Shakespeare. Well, the Internet has clearly disproved that old canard, but it seems one monkey can produce the works of today's "abstract" artists.
At least poetry is still immune from... wait, nevermind. It's not. |

An Oak Creek High School teacher has been arrested after authorities said he posted comments online in a debate about teacher salaries, saying the Columbine High School shooters were heroes.
Authorities said a writer using a pseudonym said West Bend teachers' salaries made him sick and the Columbine killers knew how to deal with that.
What. The. Fuck?
Am I missing something here? Criminal charges? For expressing an opinion?
When I was a kid, we had this little song we'd sing:
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the burning of the school
We have wiped out all the teachers, we have broken every rule
We got sent down to the office and we shot the principal
Our school is burning down...
Excuse me, gotta go answer the d- |
