I wrote this initially after Columbine...now there's been more killings at yet another school...when will it end? Where will it end...and bottom line....





Coffins still remain...

When kids are killing children
and there are bombings in the schools
when the chaos threatens close to home
like a flame to sitting fuel....

then

some people point a finger
with an easy source of blame,
yet when the dust has settled....
the coffins still remain.

When bombs are exchanged
because a dictator has his say,
the end result becomes a war
it's always been this way......

and

some people point a finger
with an easy source of blame,
yet when the dust has settled
the coffins still remain.

When lovers fight and emotions rise
until someone starts to bleed,
and rational decisions flee
in the wake of pain and need


When a child is abused
it matters not if mind or heart,
the pain's the same and lasting
'till a body search they start

and

some people point a finger

yet when the dust has settled
the coffins still remain.


There are no easy answers
to the thoughts that I have raised,
but shifting blame from near to far
cannot be the way
