I agree that they'll go for Fallon and Myers next. The mud slinging has gone unchecked since Clinton was in office and has escalated to the point that situations are becoming dangerous for anyone not agreeing with cheeto.

"Second Amendment's guaranteed right to bear arms is not the same thing as guaranteed right to assemble an unchecked, unaccountable armory that would make a Navy SEAL envious." That made me laugh. And I agree. Though I am an outsider, looking at the US like a fishbowl - everything looks slightly distorted and confusing, but is also vaguely familiar.

What an interesting trifecta. The one that resonated with me most was the last one so it's the one I'm going to respond to because it's directly relevant to my life, especially right now. You could say I'm "sacrificing" for my relationship. If you know the history, it started as a FWB (friends with benefits) and a hard-boundary of nothing serious. But I'm relationship-oriented. I don't do anything shallowly - I'm just not wired that way. I like commitment - there's something about it that resonates in my nervous system and my bones. Out of 8 billion people, it's that person who says, "I see you. I value you above all others - now or future". It's experiencing life at a deeper level than you can with just friends. It's BATTLING through life together.

For the last year, the FWB relationship has worked because I was working on myself and dating casually, just living life. Eventually I reached a point of just wanting more in my life. Wanting a life partner. So I explored that with him to which he basically said he wanted to stay single forever. Okay, understood. You are another emotionally unavailable man. Noted. Moving on - no harm, no foul. I transitioned it to "friends without benefits" to open up room in my life for a life partner. My idea was to use a matchmaking service - because maybe someone could discern through the bullshit better than I could when they see it every day. Hoping someone would have a more attuned radar to pre-screen out garbage better than apps.

Except, when I mentioned it to him he kind of froze and said, "But what about me?" Then it all changed. We've been carefully, like two battle-scarred generals, navigating it ever since. Successfully I might add despite a misunderstanding that could have derailed the whole thing but actually made us stronger. He told me he'd known for a while that if he were in a better place in life, I would be someone he would want more with. Which floored me because I never even allowed my mind to go there. I labeled him very concretely as "boy toy" and "no feelings" except friendship. That's exactly where it stayed because I can compartmentalize like that unlike other people. I'm an INTJ - half computer, half human. LOL Which brings me to the sacrifice part: we've chosen to wait. Because he's living with a roommate and has a one year lease he doesn't want to break (unless he has to because of the roommate). He's trying to financially get on his feet as well as do some healing of his own.

I get it - there's work to do. I'm further along in my self-growth than he is but was just laid off two months ago so now I'm starting over in a rebuilding phase. So I'm simply waiting for him to catch up and for my own life to restabilize as someone self-employed. The sacrifice is waiting from now until up to one year for his lease to end before we can be together the way we really want. That's when the REAL relationship work begins.

We're doing some of it now - communicating, navigating it all, getting together regularly. It's almost like a long distance relationship because he lives/works 40 minutes away. So when you talk about sacrifice - that hit me pretty hard. But also reassured me because I've never been someone who shied away. I have grit and resilience. It's other people matching me that's been the problem. But finally, I found someone who is and does. So your post gave me hope and reassurance I'm right where I'm supposed to be. Thank you!

I need quiet, connections, solitude and fellow writers. I went to weekend events in Listowel, Ireland in 2015 and Georgetown, Malaysia in 2024.

Tulsa though... weekly connection works best for me. Covid killed what I had here in Montana. I make do; but, I think I'd do better elsewhere.

Giving Thanks

It's Thanksgiving today, so I thought it appropriate to take a few moments and share what I'm thankful for this year.

I'm thankful for being financially independent. The economy is still a long way from recovering, and although it would be easy to complain about the long hours, the horrendous commute, or the fact that I'm making less than I was a couple years ago, the fact is that my wife and I are both employed, we both enjoy what we do for the most part, and we make enough money to pay the bills and even put a little away for the things we love like travel. I'm thankful for that, and I can only hope that the economy improves in 2012 so that everyone can enjoy this same blessing.

I'm thankful for my friends, and especially for my wife. It's a rare thing in this world to find someone who will truly accept you and love you for who you are. I'm incredibly thankful to all the people in my life who know all my faults and quirks and issues and for some reason are still there for me when I need them. Each and every one of them deserve to be celebrated and I hope that everyone has at least one person in their life who accepts them, loves them, and celebrates everything that they are.

I'm thankful for my health. I could be in better shape and, sure, I was just in the hospital this week to have a couple of questionable bumps and lumps removed, but I'm approaching my 30th birthday having relatively few health issues. I'm grateful for the fact that I still have the physical ability to do almost anything I want to do, and I'm blessed to (hopefully) still have enough years left to do all the things I want to do before I depart from this world.

I'm thankful for the freedoms and liberties that we enjoy. There are a lot of places in this world where people don't have the freedoms that we enjoy. As much as we might complain about who's in the Oval Office, or which idiots voted to pass which laws, or how unfair the 1% have it... in most cases we have the freedom to live where we want to live, do what we want to do, love who we want to love, worship who we want to worship, and vote for what we believe in. I'm thankful for the fact that, despite all of the faults our country may have and all of the wrongs that still need to be righted, most people have the freedom to be themselves.

With all of the things going on in our hectic lives these days, we don't always stop and take a few minutes to think about how fortunate we really are. Regardless of what else is going on in my life right now, these are the things I'm thankful for, and the things that make me realize how fortunate I really am.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you; I sincerely hope you all have something to be thankful for this year.

Surgery

So, after just over a year, I get to go back to the hospital for surgery. Don't worry... nothing serious... just have to have a couple of questionable bumps removed. They're most likely cysts, but I'd like to be sure, so the surgeon is going to make sure he removes all of them and then will stick them under a microscope to see what's up. I guess you could say that I liked the surgeon who did my appendectomy so much that I decided to go back for more!

Thankfully it's an outpatient procedure this time; I'm going in early Monday morning and I should be home by dinner time, if not sooner. Apparently the hospital rule is that you have to walk, talk, and urinate before they'll discharge you, so we'll have to see how efficiently I can accomplish those tasks and then I should be back home, propped up with a bunch of pillows and munching on painkillers for the duration of the week.

Obligatory Post

I'm posting something on my blog right now because I want to get rid of my incessant reminder to update my blog, which taunts me by reminding me daily that it's been 34 days since I last posted. Here's a quick summary of what I've been up to lately:

Family Stuff

Reading (currently on my 40th book of the year... blew past my record from last year!)

NaNoWriMo Write-A-Thon (currently underway, but decided not to write a novel myself this year)

Started a screenplay project

That's about all there is to it these days. I'm taking the entire week of Thanksgiving off, so looking forward to nine days of no work, and no school (for my wife). We're not visiting family or having family visit; just relaxing and having a nice holiday just the two of us.
