October NaNoWriMo Prep Challenge
October NaNo Prep Challenge
You CAN win National Novel Writing Month.
Get motivated and do it!
*** 2011 Update: No Entry Fee Required. Thanks to our generous donors. ***
For more information about NaNo: http://www.nanowrimo.org
Be sure to sign up at NaNoWriMo.org and participate to be eligible for the final Grand Prize!
This is how the Challenge works:
Each day during the month of October, contestants will be given an assignment. The exercises are designed to help you prepare for NaNoWriMo. The calendar of daily exercises is here: "October NaNo Prep: 2011 Calendar" [E].
Spend at least 15 minutes working on the assignment each day.
Your work is generally not required to be posted or linked in the forum, except during a "Contest Round." The October NaNo Prep Challenge is based on the honor system.
During a "Contest Round," post your entry in bitem format. These exercises are designed to not give away your premise or plot. If the work you end up writing does reveal more than you'd like, simply post that you completed the exercise but prefer not to link it. If you choose to do this, you will not be eligible to compete for Contest Round prizes. You will still be eligible for the Grand Prizes. Contest Round prizes are:
1st Place gets a Merit Badge in the genre of his/her novel
2nd Place gets 5,000 GP's
3rd Place gets 2,000 GP's
Contest Round entries may be any rating.
Each day, you are required to either post in the forum that you have completed the assignment, or post a bitem link to your Contest Round entry.
A random prompt generator is provided for your use, but is not required. The prompts are simply a tool to get your muse working, in the likely event that you don't already have your characters, background stories, or settings worked out and need some inspiration. "Generate a Random Prompt"
The point is to get you disciplined into finding time to write every day, but I am aware that life happens and sometimes interferes with even the most disciplined person's good intentions. Therefore, you may catch up on assignments from previous days, so long as you don't go more than three calendar days without posting (based on your local time). Exceptions may be made for restricted internet access. Please contact me directly to discuss options. If you fall more than three days behind and still catch up by October 31st, you may be eligible for runner-up recognition.
October NaNoWriMo Prep Challenge Grand Prize: Contestants who successfully complete the Challenge without falling more than three calendar days behind will win a Determination Merit Badge. You must complete all 31 daily assignments by October 31st to win.
NaNoWriMo Grand Prize: Contestants who successfully complete NaNoWriMo in November will win a NaNoWriMo Merit Badge. Your account at http://www.nanowrimo.org must show that you've reached 50,000 words (OR your alternate pre-established goal) by November 30. If you choose to set a different goal for yourself, post your alternate goal no later than November 15th (based on your local time). You do NOT have to win the Determination Merit Badge to be eligible for the NaNoWriMo Merit Badge; however, you do have to participate in this October NaNo Prep Challenge by completing at least one daily assignment. IMPORTANT: Please provide your NaNoWriMo author name in this forum to be eligible for this prize.
