Welcome to Barrel of Monkeys, a music-inspired writing challenge brought to you by "Invalid Item"

! This activity is held every September and celebrates the interconnectedness of music by challenging you to draw connections between the music you listen to. As well as throwing in some birthday-themed activities to coincide with Writing.com's annual birthday week.

How It Works

This year's theme is: 25

You must write a blog entry each day that includes one song that meet's the activity's theme, and one WdC-related activity from the below:

SONG

Select an appropriate song

Include the song title, artist, and an explanation for how it relates to the theme (if it's not obvious).

A link to a YouTube video or other site where we can listen to the track.

Write something inspired by the song (e.g., an explanation of why you chose it, creative writing inspired by the song, etc.).

BIRTHDAY ACTIVITIES (can be posted in any order)

1. Review 25 items (provide links to reviews)
2. Reward 25 reviewers (provide links to the reviews that were credited)
3. Post 25 welcome messages in the notebooks of newbies (provide links to the notes)
4. Post 25 message forum posts in various forums (provide links to the posts)
5. Send 25 cNotes to other WdC members (provide a list of the individuals they were sent to)
6. Participate in at least three other contests or activities featured in Party Central (provide links to those entries).
7. Get All 5 consistency achievements during Birthday week (i.e., Daily Login, Daily Forum Post, Daily Newsfeed Post, Daily Review, and Daily Blog) (provide links to those badges)

Rules

The activity runs until September 7th 10th at 11:59PM WDC time

Catch-up entries are allowed, and you may post multiple entries per day

There is no rule against working on birthday activities concurrently .

You may use either book/blog item entries or individual static items

You must create a new item or book/blog entry for EACH entry

You must submit your entries by posting individual links to each entry in the forum below

Please note which day(s) they're for in the message subject (e.g., Day 1 entry, Day 1-3 entries, etc.)

You are free to post entries individually or with multiple entries in the same post

Prize

All participants who successfully complete the seven entries will receive our exclusive Barrel Of Monkeys Badge!

Donations

Want the exclusive Barrel of Monkeys merit badge without all the hard work? Just want to support The WDC Soundtrackers and our various activities? Anyone who donates 100,000 GPs or more during the contest round (i.e., the month of August) will receive the exclusive Barrel of Monkeys merit badge.

Donations made during other times of the year that active contests are running will receive that challenge's custom badge. Donations made during the "off season" when no activities are currently running will receive a Music merit badge. For example, you can only donate to get the 12 Days badge in December, the WDC Soundtrackers badge in February, etc.
