About This Author
My name is Joy, and I love to write. Why poetry, here? Because poetry uplifts its writer, and if she is lucky enough, her readers, too. Around us, so many objects abound to write about. Once a poet starts with a smallest, most trivial object, he shall discover that his pen will spill out what is most delicate or most majestic hidden inside him. Since the classics sometimes dealt with lofty subjects with a lofty language, a person with poetry in his soul may incline to emulate that. That is understandable. Poetry does that to a person: it enlarges the soul and gives it wings. Yet, to really soar, a poet needs to take off from the ground. Kiya's gift. I love it!

Prompt 45: Fog
by Joy Author IconMail Icon
Fog

Chilly fog over the lake
and piles of mail on the desk
making you a person apart,
apart from those who
hammered out your traces
after you left your hometown.

This will be as it stands
at the end of your season
with the footprints of years
upon you, capping your senses,
as a frog’s song accompanies
dwindling memories.

Your life, lonely and silent,
has been so transient,
so strange…and you thought
you would always be aware
of the howl of the years
staggering, fading, passing.

It will all come to this,
to the fog over the lake,
the fog over the years,
the fog on your life,
the fog in your last breath.
