I am thankful

For this Community of writers and artists
where my voice is welcome
for the first time in decades

I am thankful for the opportunity to be a 'have'
and for the ability to fight the battles to remain one

I am thankful for the birds who daily greet me with song,
for my cats who ask so little and give so much,

I am thankful that I am free.
