To add the word count, you'll have to go back in and edit the piece. When you're looking at the item itself, a thin black bar will be just below the header of the item. On there it will say Edit. You need to click that and then just add your word count manually. If you don't know the word count, on that same bar will be a link that says Count, and that will give you the word count for your item.
