Hi Melissa and a warm welcome!
I just read and replied to your "Writing Buddy sought" post, before I saw this one.
It is always best and easiest to start out with "writing what you know," but it is also a sign you are stretching your Creative muscles to wish to write something new to you. I ran a March GenreChallenge which was designed to inspire exactly that, but unfortunately I only had one entry.
Anyway, what do you like to read? What subjects, in addition to these you've mentioned, interest you? Do you wish to write for adults, young adults, children, middle-school, etc.? Fiction? Nonfiction?
