Thank you for the warm welcome. In fact there have been several people who have been welcoming, even the anonymous person who gifted me with a three month upgrade. I believe that I would like to write for adults. However, with that being said, for some reason my fourteen year old daughter really enjoys reading what I write. If I do not write something new everyday she gets very disappointed. I do not think most young adults would find what I write as interesting. I have a blog and several college students have used what I have written for college research projects. I have two goals in mind right now for my writing. One, I would like to learn how to write non fiction that is not always auto-biographical. Right now when I attempt it, my writing comes out very dry and uninteresting. Two, I can write fairly well in a short article type of format, but I would like to be able to learn to write longer pieces. I have a goal in mind. I would like to attempt to write a book someday about my experiences with the mental health system in the United States. Even if it never were to get published, it is still something I would like to do. I would dearly love to get skilled enough at writing to enter contests and have a fair shot at doing well in them, and to do some freelance writing. My challenges are this, I hated writing when I was in high school. I some what enjoyed it when I was in college, but my papers were always marked up with the same thing. Too wordy and too passive. I still struggle with that, although I am doing better. It has now been 20 years since I was in college with almost no writing in that time. My already limited writing skills are very rusty now, but now is when I have found that I enjoy it. I hope that information helps. |
