I've used Tumblr for blogging, since it's pretty simple and easier to get connected with other bloggers. Tumblr has the option for posting text. It also allows you to post audio, links, photos, quotes, videos, etc. You can gain "followers" and reblog others, as well. This is more of a social blogging site, though. You mentioned word documents, so I assume you're creating a blog for writing. If you want a more clean, professional look for your own work, I'd go with Wordpress. I'm actually trying to put one together myself. It seems a little bit more complicated, but mostly because there's so many more options (which is a good thing).
