I'm not knocking or promoting Wiki, but if you're lacking a good library, I might suggest trying to get them to borrow books you need on whatever subject. There are a lot of libraries that can do that, though some at a small cost, and then you can manage your research from all kinds of sources.

You might also check to see if those librarians could point you in the direction of people or organizations who would have information you could tap into.
