I use an "edit sheet" where I make a note of all the things I know will need fixing in the edit, but which I don't want to slow me down while I'm writing. It's been really helpful when writing my first drafts. I highlight the point in the text with double brackets, then make a note on my edit sheet along the lines of "How long can a turtle hold its breath?" / "Check spelling" / "Look up the jargon for this - he's meant to be a professional!" etc. Once it's on the edit sheet, I am absolutely forbidden from going back to it, worrying about it, or looking up the answers until AFTER the first draft is finished. When editing, I use the "search" feature to find all instances of double brackets, and go through each problem at my leisure. Right now, I'm doing the research that affects my plot - major things that have to be answered before I can decide on an ending. Any research points that come up during November go on the edit sheet. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** (outa time, outa ideas, outa here!) |
