My 2cents on the subject of writing 50k of crap: Here's a sample from the words I wrote yesterday: "In that curious country, there was a powerful ruler whose army possessed such powerful weapons that many people could be wounded all at the same time" I think we can all see the faults in that sentence but they don't matter at this stage. I, too, did my first naNo in 2009 and I managed over 50k but I was rightly not satisfied with the result. In 2010, I thought I'd write something readable but I didn't even manage 2k. This year, thanks to this challenge, I've got a reasonable plot, a bunch of defined characters who switch sides every time I take my eye off them, some well-drawn settings and the determination to not let anybody down. I just have to keep my foot firmly on the head of my inner critic long enough to grind out the words. So, good luck to everybody who's following the same method. |
