June 6th Frog
Nathan watched silently from the back porch of the house as his little angel played to her hearts content in the backyard. Chelsea ran around the yard with her golden hair flying trying at first to catch the multicolored butterflies that just broke free of their long cocooned slumber. Then mimicking her mother she grabbed her brown toy watering can that was adorned with a pink daisy and began watering the surrounding flowers; until she found the little frog, she attempted to catch forgetting about her brown toy watering can on the grass next to her.

He stood there in awe watching her with a goofy grin etched across his face upon realizing just how much Chelsea resembled his wife. She was currently in Seattle, but would call often as she always would when she was called out of state for a job.

Nathan hated to leave Chelsea alone in the yard although the neighborhood they lived in could be trusted, still he didn’t trust people. He was going to call Chelsea in when he heard the phone ring, but instead decided to run grab the phone and comeback. He gave Chelsea a quick glance to make sure where she was.

“Chelsea, daddy will be right back. Stay right there.” He told her before disappearing into the house.

A quick jog into the kitchen had him at the cordless phone in less then two minutes. Nathan pressed the answer button on the phone then put the phone to his ear.

“You have reached the Alexander residence, how may I help you?” He answered, walking back out into the backyard to find that Chelsea hadn’t listened to him, and that is when a moment of panic set in.

“Hey hun, I was just calling to talk to my two favorite people.” the voice at the other end replied, which immediately quelled the panic that rose enough to clear his mind. Denise, his wife, could always put him at ease whenever he began to panic.

He looked around the yard for Chelsea only to find her squatting over by the pond he took all last summer building. Her little white and blue outfit glowed in the rays of sunshine as she made an attempt to catch the green frog again that somehow found its way in their backyard.

“Hey Chelsea, mom is on the phone, she wants to talk to you.”

Chelsea turned smiling the biggest smile he had ever seen then raced to the phone yelling. “Mommy, mommy, mommy.”
