The sun bathed the earth of what was becoming a beautiful day. He watched as one boy kicked a soccer ball that flew in the air and landed in the giant fountain. The group of boys he was playing with ran into the fountain and began playing in the water. Their laughter ran through the air and was soon lost in the noises of the town festival. The fourth of July was his favorite holiday and for years now he celebrated it with everyone in town. Around the fountain were people sitting on blankets, tossing footballs and gorging themselves on picnic food. A long row of grills were cooking numerous hamburgers and hot dogs with men wearing funny aprons cooking. Next to them were more tables these were filled with hot dishes, salads and other various summer time treats. The last table was filled to the brim with deserts one could gain twenty pounds alone from the assortment. Women tended those tables and a few were overly dressed for the holiday. The smells alone drifted past his nose and the man drooled, but sadly this year it was different for him. He was not going to lie in the grass, eat hamburgers or watch fireworks. The town was in grave danger, but they didn't know the future.

The sweat running down his face burned his eyes, the shirt stuck to his back and he could smell urine. Early that morning he had crept into the clock tower when the sun was still hiding. Climbing up the ladder inside the tower with his supplies knowing that by the end of the day he would be called a hero. Above the clock was a small crawl space that was filled with cobwebs and hot as heck. His feet were numb from sitting in the same position for so long and the air had turned bad. The dust made his face itchy and time seemed to lurch slowly forward. When the festivities started being set up then he had some entertainment, watching these poor fools who had no idea that danger was all around them. One day he started to hear a voice in his head, the voice that told him who was bad or good. The voice that reminded him that his neighbors were watching him or how the police was stealing his mail. Then one night he watched a movie and it all came together. Children of the Corn was playing on TNT he watched every minute of it the movie had been out for twenty years he had never taken time to watch it. The next day when he went out for a walk he could hear the children talking. Not about toys or school, but how they were going to kill the whole town. That's when he knew action was required, no one else heard the children's evil plots.

Out of his bag he grabbed his only gun, a Remington A303 a great sniper rifle that could shoot up to 300 feet away. The fesivities were underway and the place was full of children. He took one more peep out of the hole he had borrowed in wall, large enough for a barrel but too small for anyone to notice. Then he grabbed the gun and looking throught the scope aimed at one of the soccer players. Pulling the trigger the sound echoed in the tower and he thanked himself for wearing ear plugs. The boy fell down and taking aim fired again, and again. People were screaming, but they didn't know what was happening. But after he told them, they would call him a hero.
