June 9: Surf
by Alyssa Author IconMail Icon
The sun was sinking down below the swell of the waves that crashed over the rocky shore.

"It's kind of late Jordan. Are you sure you can't wait until morning?" I listened to the couple squabble with each other.

Jordan shook his head stubbornly. "We'll be back before sundown. I promise." He kissed her on the forehead.

I smilled, he definitely won't be back before sundown. He's going to be in the doghouse with his wife. "Are you ready sir?" I asked, stepping forward with the board.

He gave his wife one last look before following me to the boat.

"George, start 'er up! We've got a customer."

George jerked awake and started fumbling around groggily. I heard the boat's engine sputter to life. I instructed the tourist on what to do before I climbed into the boat. We sped off into the middle of the ocean with him trailing behind us. He shouted with glee, the salty water spraying up behind him.

"How much longer?" George asked.

I shrugged, watching the sparkling ocean's water ripple beneath the boat. "Can't be much longer no..." I stopped in mid-sentence when a bright red board caught my eyes.

I smiled widely and nodded to George. We both laughed.

"To more happy years of fortune given to us by the great mystics of the blue ocean." George exclaimed while I pulled in the ropes that were trailing behind the boat.

"What will we tell the wife?" I asked.
