June 9th - Surf
by A Non-Existent User
April looked up from her Kindle as her son gave an angry shout at his sister. "Hey, That was my sand castle!" "Sand Castles are for babies." Lauri said matter of factly as she stomped on it again, each fist against her hips. "You should be watching Daddy." "Watching Daddy is boring. I can't even see him over the crowd. Besides Momma isn't watching." Todd argued, as tears streaked down his dirty face. "Momma isn't watching cause it makes her nervous seeing him out there. But, it's fun, so you should be watching." Lauri answered back trying to grab her little brothers hand. "Lauri, for someone who thinks everyone should be watching, you just missed your dad doing a great move cause you were bulling your little brother." Lauri looked up at her uncle Jack, the swiftly moved her eyes back to the water scanning for her father. "He shot the curl didn't he, and I missed it. It's all your fault, Todd. Had you been paying attention instead of building stupid sand castles, Lauri snarled. "It's your own fault for being such a busy body," April replied softly, forcing her daughter to actually have to listen to hear her. "You know your Daddy said we didn't have to watch if we didn't want to." "No, he said you didn't have to watch." The whine in Lauri's tone brought her mothers full attention upon her daughter. "Jack, can you stay here and let Todd play a while longer and let James know that I took April back to the hotel room. A whine like that only means one thing. Someone needs a nap." "No Mommy, No! I wanna watch Daddy," April wailed! "Then you should have been watching him, he's already coming up out of the surf. His turn in the competition is over. You missed it. Now your whining. I think it's time for a nap." "I am not a baby anymore. Naps are for babies like Todd." The little girl stomped her foot to emphasis her point. Then slowly turned as she heard a throat clear behind her. Turning slowly, she saw her Daddy standing behind her planting the end of his board into the sand. "Seems to me munchkin, if you didn't need a nap, I wouldn't have heard you screaming about not needing a nap halfway back from the judges stand." James reached out a hand helping his wife stand, then kissed her swiftly before turning to his brother. "I think I need to switch to the other board for the next round. Kids, go with your mother. Whether you need a nap or not, your mother needs one. She looks exhausted. So lay down with her and help her go to sleep." April mouthed a quick, "I love you," as James and Jack headed off in the direction of their supply trailer. As quickly as possible she gathered up her stuff trying to hide a smile as April tried to stifle a yawn. Before she knew it the kids would be asleep, and she would get to bury herself in her book and forget that her husband liked to risk his neck every time he turned around. Sounded like the prefect afternoon to her. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** "Invalid Item" ![]() ![]() "WdC SuperPower Reviewers Group" ![]() ![]() "Invalid Item" ![]() ![]() Check out my Rising Stars Bookiemonster ![]() ![]() ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |
