Dora knew it was summer time when she hear the boys yelling and screeching. They knew they weren't supposed to be down in the water by themselves, but the summer started out the same every year. She pulled on her robe and slid her feet into her slippers. She absentmindedly poured herself a cup of coffee and shuffled out to the deck. She'd driven until well after midnight to get up to the cabin. She was amazed the boys were up already, but they had slept away most of the six-hour drive.

"Boys!" She yelled as she bent over the deck railing. "Get out of that water this instant!" They all knew how to swim, of course, but she didn't like the idea of them being in the water alone, especially when she didn't even know about it.

"But Mom," Martin started.

"Mom nothing! Get out of the water!"

"What, do we have sharks now?" Her husband Glen stuck his head out from the lower level under the deck.

"Oh my God!" She almost dropped her cup and ran down the steps to where he picked her up off her feet and whirled her around. He'd been away on business off and on for the last few months. This last time he'd been gone for almost two weeks and wasn't supposed to meet them at the cabin until Tuesday some time. Dora knew she was tired, but she was still fairly sure it was only Saturday.

"Surprise!" His boyish smile was a welcomed sight. There hadn't been much to smile about lately, it seemed, with him always gone and her alone with their three boys. Glen was missing so much - plays, concerts, football games.

"What are you doing here already? Did something happen at work?" She knew she shouldn't think the worst, but what if Glen had gotten fired? But then, what would be have done to get fired? Who knows. Maybe they just downsized? Thoughts were skimming through her head as quickly as bugs on water.

"Calm down," Glen reassured. "It's way better than you think." He took her hand and led her to the edge of their lake property. They stood along the tree line. Glen pushed back the branch of a pine tree and pulled Dora in front of him. "Look."

"Yeah? It's the old resort." Dora had stayed at the resort on Lake Waukegee with her grandparents almost every summer when she was a kid. She couldn't remember when it closed, but it was before the boys were born. Someone from the area bought it, she remembered hearing, but it was never open to the public again. The lodge sat empty, as did the six cabins. At least, she mused, it hadn't been parceled off and sold like so many of the other old resorts in the area.

"It's not going to be old for long."

"What?" She knew she couldn't hide her confusion.

"Welcome to Waukegee Lodge, Dora and Glen Paylor, proprietors."
