This exercise helped me flush out some problems with the story I hadn't addressed yet. And to make it all work, I had to reduce to complexity of some later chapters, which I wanted to do anyway to make the story more interesting. I make my stories far too complex and they end up confusing so anything that simplifies the story is often a blessing =)
