I have a couple of 'technical' suggestions, too, if you'd like them.

The main thing is to be clear that it's a sci-fi spoof - if indeed I'm right about that, but the comparison with Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy strongly implies it. That novel was a satire, but arguably from a rather narrow, 'corporate' standpoint (engineers are more useful than personnel officers, etc). I think your story idea has every potential to appeal to a wider working-class audience who could identify with the characters, not just engineers.
