I suspect that usually the initial notice comes from a friend of the deceased who is also a member here. Sometimes they post an obituary; sometimes not.

But to be memorialized in this forum, an obituary, or other hard-fact notice, has to be provided to the Staff that the person has, indeed, passed away.
