I wouldn't know how your 13 yr. old would think or feel, but if you're having something making you hesitate or stop, just put a sign where it is and skip it. You can always come back to it when the right idea finds you. It is worse when we get stuck and linger because we lose time and mileage.
Another thing that occurred to me could be that maybe her POV shouldn't be the one to tell her story from. Have you considered someone else or another way of telling the story? Something to consider.
