Hi Cadie Laine, An example of developing characters in story would be the character I am playing with right now - Jacqueline Skelton. I have written at least five story with her so far, and during the writing process I realized her flaw was that she assumes people are basically good, however she is a cyber security engineer which is a profession where a healthy dose of skepticism is essential. I feel that if I had just written that her flaw was that she was too trusting, I would have gone overboard, but by developing it in a story naturally, it comes across more genuine. I like to write out their past, how they got to where they are in a story and then I incorporate bits and pieces of that history into the main story as needed. For me, it gives the characters more life than if I just plucked them out of air and put them into a story. C. L. Hammer “There is no rule on how to write. Sometimes it comes easily and perfectly: sometimes it’s like drilling rock and then blasting it out with charges.” ~ Ernest Hemingway |
