I prefer antagonists to be more real, like they have thoughts and feelings and we can relate to them. That's part of what makes them so scary, because we cannot imagine the leap to that point of view but then it's right there.

I find unredeemable villains, with nothing good about them, to be too 'bad' to be believable. Good luck.
