It can help but I would suggest that maybe you don't need to know every detail unless it's going to stop you from writing. Remember, there are details that can be added later. The goal for writing a new novel in November is to get a first draft that is going to be messy and might not have all of the details. This prep helps gather things for writing but the depth can vary. Keep going if it will help but also don't let it keep you from finishing other assignments. I have done over 100,000 words in a fantasy that has a different magic system and there was zero prep. Not notes. No world building. Just writing. So.. I might not be the best one to answer because I tend to write first as I've seen the story for so long in my mind before I get things on page, but I don't have the massive world building that others do. |
