Is this a multi-point of view type of story? Just ask because it's hard to follow one point of view for a whole story only to have that person die. It works okay in short fiction but in a longer one, being that long in a single point of view. Could work though for other readers, just some might not like that jar switch at the end. Though some are okay with the main characters dying. So, still could work.

I would suggest either picking or writing both ways. It's a rough draft. You can try it one way in the first draft. Then you can write it in a different way in the second draft. There are options so it's not like picking one now traps you into that forever with the story.

Sounds like you have some interesting options. Could be cool to see what not breaking a curse in the end would involve. hmmm
