That is a really good question. And my answer is both: yes and no. Most of my reading when I was younger has been fantasy with some contemporary or general Young Adult and Middle Grade stuff thrown in there. I did read a few John Grisham books as a teen but not many. Some of my writing has been fantasy based but not all. The ones closest to be ready for publication are going to be the contemporary YA novels. And the one that I finished first ever with the help of NaNoWriMo was an adult romance. I've written a few adult romances that need rewriting or editing. But I started writing them before I ever read any. Now, I'm also adding a new edition... Mystery. Granted, I've listened to a few romances that included mystery. Like the main focus is figure out who is killing people but also they fall in love. There is a really good series that included clues based off Poe even. But I've not read just regular mysteries or many stories with detective/cop main characters. So, I'm a little bit all over the place it seems. |
