Well I did send Christmas card and holiday cards to my elder brother when he was doing Army training. From 1987 to 1991, that's 4 years and he was 2 years elder to me, surprise surprise there was no mobile or internet. So he used to feel very lonely in a alien environment with very harsh conditions. I was living in a cosy environment with my family, the trick was to send some exciting incidents, most of it fabricated to enhance his reading experience. Trust me, when he got commision in army he showed me all the cards and letter that I wrote to him twice a month. In India there are so many festivals, specially christmas and new year. All those pictures and handwriting, he cherished them all. From 1991 till 2001 before the advent of technology I used to send special postcards to my cousins in US, and they used to visit us once a year with tons of gift and high end jackets or jewels. We used to have wonderful get together with lots of fun and frolic. So yes now those nostalgic moments remain a bright spot in my memories |
