Ah - turning lead into gold - a process we've tried to do for centuries, only now, we've figured out how to do it. Thing is - we'd be better off not doing so, from a monetary point of view. To turn lead into gold is very expensive, and thus, at the moment, is not worth the cost, which is worth more than the value of the gold. Still, it's nice to know that it can be done. Maybe some day, it will prove to be useful.

In a way, it's like finding out that other stars have planets. We've theorized that they've existed for decades, as it didn't make sense that only our sun had big rocks orbiting them. We have made stories about them as a result. Now there's proof that they exist. I wonder which theory will we prove next?
