Random Thoughts On Abuse
Abuse is a very hard subject to write about and living through it is so much tougher. Pretending one doesn't know its happening around you or in your neighborhood will not make it go away. The abuser gets away with his abusing and the one who is being abused is still left with no one to help them or to reach out a hand in love and concern.

I am not talking only on child abuse. There are many forms of abuse. Just to name a few; verbal, physical and mental.

The reasons are varied as to why the person who is being abused doesn't "just walk away"as some people have remarked. It's not always as easy as that to them. Usually if it's an adult they might be so beaten down mentally that they feel they don't deserve to get away from the abuse. Time and time again of being told, "your worthless" you begin to believe it.

Another reason is; being afraid to finally get out on their own and have to make all the decisions with no money. How are you going to afford groceries, child care, medical bills, electric bills and so forth? At least where you're at, with the abuser you won't have that to worry about.

Some abusers threaten to get custody of the children if the person leaves. To a mother that is to say frightening which it should be and exactly what the abuser wants them to fear. No one can say without a doubt that the abuser would not end up with the children. It has happened at times.

All of these worries crowd an abused persons mind. Please do not think an abused person likes staying with someone who treats them bad. Far from it!

Until we reach out with clear cut answers and solutions to allay their fears, we will always have those who are scared to reach out for help and safety. Remember this in the future when you hear someone remark, "Why doesn't she just leave him"?
