Nature and Nurture

My nature is the thread with which I’m sewn;
yet blood and bone is but a piece of me.
The part you see cannot survive alone,
no birthmark known embodies dignity.
I’m prone to be a plant that others grow;
the seeds they sow and nutrients they use
effect my views about the world I know.
So friend or foe—I’m wearing your tattoos.
