(Blue Bayou) PEEK INSIDE THE PUB
Death of a Hobby
Death of a Hobby

Hobbies happen
when ancient children
return to playful days.

They hunt the hidden vision
of an ashtray, in the lump of clay
that holds their heart.

With zeal they form and fashion,
hoping for that smile
forever lost in yesterday’s clay

Now nearsighted,
unnecessary tools and techniques
steal from the labor of love

Bitter sweet the loss
as refinement rules the roost
of the fading hobby

Cold contentment
is a poor substitute
when the hobby yields to the craft.
